Surf Life Saving is proud to be a volunteer organisation that has experienced steady growth in volunteer numbers. Our clubs and our members are the heart and soul of our organisation. The volunteers, who constantly give up their time both on and off the beach, are integral to our continued success. They come from all walks of life and they are involved with surf lifesaving for many different reasons. They may enjoy being a part of their local community, contributing to make their communities safer, acquiring new skills, staying fit and active, volunteering as a family or simply because it’s fun.

The Sunshine Coast Branch of Surf Life Saving Queensland is the largest branch in Queensland and was established in 1930, consisting of 15 Surf Life Saving Clubs:

Lifesaving Services

SSC Lifesaving | Surf Life Saving Queensland

All lifesaving personnel are trained in various lifesaving techniques and must attain an Award prior to performing patrol services. Surf Life Saving Queensland and Sunshine Coast Branch lifesaving services are spread across the region from Rainbow Beach to Redcliffe Peninsula.

Our services comprise:

  • 15 affiliated surf life saving clubs

  • Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service

  • Rescue Craft Service

  • SurfCom, communication and surveillance

  • Mobile services

  • Duty Officers

  • Professional lifeguard services

Providing aquatic safety to the public is the most important area of our operations and includes:

  • Surf safety and surf awareness information

  • Dangerous marine creature information and research

  • School education programs

  • Community award training

  • Water safety services

  • Statistical analysis of incidents

  • Coastal Management Services
