The Peregian Beach Surf Life Saving Club was originally established in 1962, supported by local developers and a small group of dedicated lifesavers who patrolled from a modest dune-side shelter.
The club faced a major setback in 1974 when a cyclone destroyed the original clubhouse, leading to its disbandment. A strong community push saw the club re-form in 1984, with patrols resuming in 1985 despite limited resources. In 2014, mounting debt forced the club to dissolve, with the Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club stepping in to maintain patrols and community safety. Continued population growth and local support reignited efforts to re-establish an independent club, with planning groups formed and junior programs successfully relaunched by 2019. Momentum continued leading to the official incorporation of the re-formed Peregian Beach Surf Life Saving Club in March 2022, making the current iteration of the Club the youngest Surf Life Saving Club in Queensland.
The Club has continued to grow each season and now has 120 Active patrolling members and 250 Junior Activities members, marking a successful revival driven by strong community commitment. The Club prides itself on being a family orientated environment focused on education and surf safety.
Life savers patrol Peregian Beach on Sundays and public holidays from the start of the September school holidays until the May Day long weekend each season, with lifeguards patrolling the beach on the remaining days of the year.
In 2026 the Club completed a full renovation of the Active areas of the Club with new training, storage and member facilities.
The Club hosts the very popular Peregian Beach Markets in the park between the Club and the beach on every first and third Sunday of the month.
Peregian Beach sits between Coolum Beach to the south and Sunshine Beach to the north and offers a slightly quieter, more relaxed alternative to both. Peregian Beach has a laid back village feel, with the Surf Club and adjacent park and skate park located right within the village.
Despite its relaxed feel, Peregian is an exposed ocean beach and is considered moderately hazardous due to its rip currents and shifting sandbars. It has a double sandbar system, which can cause waves to break quickly. Rips are common, especially during bigger swells—strong awareness is important. Conditions vary a lot: calm and beginner-friendly one day, then rough and powerful the next, particularly in summer cyclone season.
Swimmers are advised to always swim between the flags at Peregian Beach. The main section of the beach is patrolled by the Peregian Beach SLSC on Sundays and Public Holidays during the patrol season and is complemented by lifeguards all other days of the year. During peak holiday periods and summer weekends lifeguards also patrol a second location at North Peregian Beach.
