Whether you're a local or a visitor, staying safe while enjoying our beautiful beaches is essential. North Queensland is home to stunning coastlines, but it also comes with unique challenges. Here’s everything you need to know to stay safe in this tropical paradise.

KEY Safety Messages

To ensure you enjoy your time at the beach, make sure you follow this advice.

  • Swim Between the Flags
    Always swim between the red and yellow flags, which mark the safest area of the beach. Lifesavers and lifeguards are on patrol in these areas and ready to assist if needed.
  • Check for Marine Stingers
    During stinger season (November to May), always wear a stinger suit when entering the water, and swim only in designated stinger net enclosures.
  • Beware of Crocodiles
    Crocodiles are occasionally spotted in some areas. Check local signage and avoid swimming in unpatrolled or river mouths.
  • Follow Signage and Warnings
    Observe and follow all safety signs and warnings at the beach.
