Sunshine Beach SLSC
Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club began patrols in the season of 1980/81 making it one of the youngest surf life saving clubs in Australia.
The club is a community organisation run by volunteers dedicated to protecting members of the public who surf and swim at Sunshine Beach; one of the best open beach surfing breaks in Queensland.
Our volunteer life savers patrol every weekend and on public holidays from the September school holidays until the last weekend in April. Patrol hours are from 7am to 5pm with extended hours to 6pm through the busy Christmas period. Lifeguards patrol the beach at all other times.
Sunshine Beach
A long beach offering plenty of surf and a range of settlements and facilities.
There are three main settlements along the beach at Sunshine Beach, Peregian Beach and the larger Coolum Beach. Sunshine Beach is primarily a holiday and residential area, that extends for 3km along the beach. It has one of Queensland’s newest surf life saving clubs, established in 1982, reflecting the newness of the development. The club is located in a grassy, bluff-top beach reserve 1.5km south of Lion Rock. Steps and a ramp lead down to the patrolled beach.
Swimming anywhere along the beach is relatively hazardous owing to the persistent strong rips, the deep longshore trough and larger rips further offshore. You should only swim at the four patrolled beaches. Stay between the flags and well clear of the rips.
