Women make up nearly 50% of membership within SLSQ but are underrepresented in leadership, governance and operational roles.
Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is committed to accelerating activity towards Gender Equity and providing opportunities for more women to take on leadership roles in life saving and to encourage allies to advocate and support women in our organisation.
What is it?
The Women's Advocacy and Advisory Group (WAAG) is a new working group dedicated to advising Branch Executive on opportunities for advancing gender equity, inclusion and leadership opportunities for women across Surf Life Saving, Sunshine Coast Branch.
The WAAG is an advisory panel established to support the implementation of the Surf Life Saving Queensland Gender Equity Plan at Branch and Club level. The WAAG provides a collaborative platform for women to share experiences, identify barriers, advocate for meaningful change and develop practical initiatives that strengthen female participation and representation. In spite of making up 50% of membership at Branch level, women remain underrepresented in most operational, technical and leadership roles. The group aims to address these imbalances by creating opportunities for women to develop their skills, build confidence, access mentoring and progress within the organisation.
The Sunshine Coast Branch is committed to creating a more inclusive, supportive and empowering environment for women across Surf Life Saving. Through initiatives such as the Women’s Leadership Network, Patrol 99 - the Sunshine Coast’s first Women + Allies Roving Patrol Team - and opportunities for leadership development and mentoring, we’re working to support women to grow, connect and thrive in our movement.
As a proud supporter of the Women’s Advisory & Advocacy Group (WAAG), the first initiative of its kind in Queensland, we are committed to promoting transparency, inclusion and meaningful opportunities for women across our Branch.
