Opportunities for Members

The Sunshine Coast Branch is committed to creating a stronger, more inclusive Surf Life Saving community where women are supported, empowered and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Through a range of initiatives, we are working to break down barriers, build leadership pathways and create meaningful opportunities for women to grow, connect and thrive across our 15 clubs. From developing confidence and capability through Patrol 99 and dedicated leadership training, to celebrating the incredible contributions of women through Pink Patrol, these initiatives are helping shape a brighter future for women in lifesaving.

Together, we're creating opportunities, strengthening connections and ensuring women have a place, a voice and a pathway to lead in every part of our movement.

PATROL 99 - Branch Patrol Team

Patrol 99 is a Sunshine Coast Women’s Advisory and Advocacy Group (WAAG) initiative designed to connect, support and empower women throughout their Surf Life Saving journey.

Bringing together female patrolling members and allies from across our 15 clubs, Patrol 99 creates opportunities to patrol at different beaches, learn from experienced members, build confidence and develop leadership skills in a supportive environment.

More than just a patrol team, Patrol 99 is about creating connections, sharing knowledge and giving women opportunities to gain experience, step outside their comfort zones and grow their capabilities in lifesaving.

Participation is flexible, with no expectation to attend every activity or patrol. Members can get involved whenever their personal and club commitments allow.

Patrol 99 is about women supporting women, building confidence and creating stronger pathways for female participation and leadership across Sunshine Coast Surf Life Saving.

Women’s Silver Medallion Patrol Captain Course

The Sunshine Coast Branch is looking to create more opportunities for women to step into operational leadership through a dedicated Women’s Silver Medallion Patrol Captain (SMPC) Course.

Developed in response to the shortage of female members holding the SMPC qualification, this initiative aims to provide a supportive, women-focused learning environment where participants can build their knowledge, confidence and skills to take on Patrol Captain roles.

The proposed course will offer flexible training options to help accommodate work, family and other commitments, while creating opportunities for women to learn, connect and support one another throughout their development.

Importantly, the initiative extends beyond the qualification itself, with a focus on ongoing mentoring, practical experience and support to help newly qualified Patrol Captains confidently transition into leadership roles.

Our goal is to break down barriers, increase female representation in patrol leadership and create a stronger pathway for women to lead on our beaches.

PINK PATROL 2026/27

Pink Patrol is an opportunity for our Sunshine Coast Surf Life Saving clubs to come together and celebrate the incredible contribution of women and girls in shaping our lifesaving movement.

Supported by Surf Life Saving Queensland, Celebrating Women in Lifesaving recognises the achievements of women, past and present, while promoting safe, inclusive and welcoming environments where women and girls feel valued, respected and supported. Through a dedicated patrol at each participating club, women, girls and allies come together to acknowledge their contributions, celebrate successes and inspire future generations to confidently pursue opportunities in lifesaving.

For the Sunshine Coast Branch, our goal is to achieve 100% club participation across all 15 surf clubs for Pink Patrol on Sunday 7 March. We want to create a visible show of support across our beaches, highlighting the important role women play in every aspect of our movement.

To help clubs get involved, the Branch is working towards developing a centralised Pink Patrol resource package, including promotional materials and items such as pink zinc and ribbons. This will make participation easier for clubs while creating a consistent and recognisable celebration across the region.

Pink Patrol is more than just wearing pink. It's about recognising the women who have shaped our movement, celebrating those leading the way today and inspiring the next generation to see what is possible in Surf Life Saving.
