Volunteering can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with real pressures. Many members juggle lifesaving commitments alongside work, study, family and other responsibilities. Learning to set healthy boundaries, manage role overload, and recognise when it’s okay to say no are important parts of staying well.
Leadership roles such as Patrol Captain, Club Captain or Sport Captain can bring additional pressure, while changes in roles, life circumstances, or club environments can also create periods of adjustment. Understanding these realities - and having strategies to manage them - can help members maintain balance, protect their wellbeing, and continue contributing in a sustainable way.
