Strategic & Succession Planning Specialists

Purpose of Position

To provide expertise and facilitation support to Clubs in developing or reviewing their strategic direction, setting long-term goals and building effective leadership succession pathways. This role strengthens Clubs' capability and ensures alignment with SLSQ’s broader strategic direction and sustainability priorities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate or support the delivery of Strategic Planning workshops or sessions.
• Assist Clubs to define their vision, mission, values and long-term priorities.
• Support the development of clear, actionable strategic plans with realistic timeframes.
• Guide Clubs in identifying succession needs across Board, Committee and key volunteer roles.
• Help Clubs create or review Succession Plans that consider mentoring, leadership development, and volunteer retention.
• Provide written feedback and advice on draft plans and offer recommendations for improvement.

Other Duties and Travel

• Attend in-person sessions where feasible (usually weekend planning days).
• Engage in follow-up meetings via phone or video as required.
• Work flexibly to accommodate availability.
• Occasional travel may be required; costs to be covered by the Club under the Priority Clubs Initiative.

Risk Management Specialists

Purpose of Position

To assist Clubs in understanding, assessing, and mitigating key operational, reputational, and compliance risks. The specialists will provide practical advice and tools to embed a proactive risk management culture aligned with best practices.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate risk workshops or one-on-one sessions to identify Club-specific risks.
• Assist Clubs in creating or updating a Club Risk Register.
• Support Clubs in prioritising risks and developing mitigation plans.
• Provide templates, tools and training resources to enhance Club risk management processes.
• Encourage integration of risk considerations into Club decision-making, planning and reporting.
• Offer advice on structures that support risk accountability.

Other Duties and Travel

• May be required to attend in-person Club risk reviews or planning days.
• Regular follow-up may occur remotely through email, phone, or video conferencing.
• Travel may be necessary depending on Club location; all costs to be covered by the Club.

Financial Management Specialist

Purpose of Position

To support Clubs in improving their financial governance, sustainability and accountability. The Specialist will assist with reviewing financial processes, budgeting, reporting and financial planning to help Clubs meet both operational needs and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

• Review current financial processes and governance arrangements.
• Support the development or refinement of annual budgets and forecasts.
• Provide advice on setting up internal financial controls, checks and delegations.
• Advise on financial policies, procedures, and asset management.
• Provide guidance to Club Treasurers and finance volunteers to build internal capability.
• Align financial planning with strategic goals and long-term sustainability measures.

Other Duties and Travel

• Participation in workshops or Committee meetings may be required (in-person or online).
• Availability for Club Treasurers to seek ad-hoc support post-engagement.
• Travel to Clubs as needed; costs are to be covered by the Club under the Priority Clubs Initiative.
