The time commitment for volunteering can vary depending on your role and the specific needs of the Club. This could range from a few hours a week to five hours a month! Whatever time you can give, your Club will work with your availability.

Volunteers are required to undergo some basic training to familiarise themselves with the Club’s operations, safety protocols, and their specific responsibilities. Not all training is physical and requires you to get in the water!

Training can include first aid, aquatic rescue, and child protection and much more!

If you are wanting to be a lifesaver who is involved in water rescues, you will need either a Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate.

Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate holders serve as our first responders on the beach, equipped with the essential skills and knowledge in surf awareness, rescue techniques, radio communication, CPR, and first aid. Both awards require a level of fitness, including a timed pool swim.

The Bronze Medallion can be completed from 15 years of age, equipping you with the essential skills to patrol the beach and opening up further Lifesaving award opportunities. As a Bronze Medallion holder, your responsibilities will include beach patrols, ensuring public safety, potential rescues and preventive actions.

If you aren’t quite ready to attain the Bronze Medallion, The Surf Rescue Certificate is a stepping stone and can be completed from 13 years of age.

If you would rather stay out of the water, these awards are not necessary.

A Blue Card is a background check and screening process required for individuals working with children or young people in certain roles, and is needed for everyone volunteering with a Surf Lifesaving Club.

The Nippers program typically takes place on Sunday mornings between April/May to October .

This program is designed for children aged 5-13 years to learn about surf lifesaving, beach safety, and water skills in a fun and engaging environment. It’s a great way for kids to stay active, make new friends, and develop valuable life-saving skills.
