Queensland’s youngest aspiring lifesavers will hit the sand at Townsville’s Picnic Bay this Thursday for a special Come and Try morning celebrating the launch of Symal Little Lifesavers.
The event will give local children aged 5–12 the chance to experience the fun and excitement of surf lifesaving, while learning important water safety skills in a safe and supportive environment.
The Townsville event is part of a major new partnership between Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) and diversified construction and technical services provider Symal Group (Symal), which has joined SLSQ as Official Junior Partner.
SLSQ CEO Damien Marangon said Symal Little Lifesavers gave more young Queenslanders the opportunity to learn water safety and discover surf lifesaving from an early age.
“Little Lifesavers is where many children first discover the beach, learn how to stay safe around the water and experience what it means to be part of the surf lifesaving community,” Mr Marangon said.
“We’re delighted to welcome Symal as our Official Junior Partner and to bring this partnership to life here in Townsville with a Come and Try morning for local families.”
“These programs are about giving children the skills and confidence to enjoy the beach safely, while creating a pathway into Nippers, youth development and eventually becoming active lifesavers themselves.”
Symal Founder and Group Managing Director Joe Bartolo said Symal was proud to support young Queenslanders through its partnership with SLSQ.
“We’re incredibly excited to support the next generation of young lifesavers and to see the Symal Little Lifesavers program come to life in communities across Queensland,” Mr Bartolo said.
“Surf lifesaving is built around many of the values we share at Symal — safety, teamwork, leadership and looking out for the people around you.”
“Giving children the opportunity to build confidence in and around the water from a young age is something we’re incredibly proud to support.”
