Surf Life Saving Queensland long weekend outlook

Ahead of the King’s Birthday Long Weekend, Surf Life Saving Queensland is urging beach-goers to take the advice of surf lifesavers and lifeguards to stay safe.

Research shows that the risk of coastal drowning deaths are more than doubled on public holidays and was even higher on long weekends.

With favourable weather conditions combining with school holidays and the long weekend, beach visitations are expected to be high with SLSQ reminding the public to swim only at patrolled beaches.  Find your nearest patrolled beach at www.lifesaving.com.au

In the first two weekends of the season, surf lifesavers have performed 67 rescues and 6,516 preventative actions with a further 293 first aid treatments along the Queensland coast.

Ahead of the the weekend, Surf Life Saving Queensland is issuing the following update:

Gold Coast:

  • Saturday

Temperature 16°-27°

Mostly sunny. Slight chance of a shower. Light winds becoming north to northeasterly

15 to 20 km/h during the day then becoming light during the evening.
