March 13, 2024
Surf Life Saving Queensland has confirmed that in response to poor conditions and forecasted swell and wind, the 2024 Senior Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships will now be hosted at North Kirra instead of Broadbeach.
In accordance with our contingency plans and safety and emergency framework, event organisers have assessed the current conditions as well as the long range forecasts for Broadbeach, and determined that all water events and distance beach events will be moved to North Kirra SLSC starting Friday 15 March. As with all events, the start of competition is contingent upon daily water safety risk assessments.
All beach sprint and beach flag events will remain at Kurrawa SLSC.
The safety of the competitors and officials remains the priority for organisers with conditions and regular updates to be provided over the coming days.
At this stage the timetable of events will remain unchanged and provided later today via the SLSQ website.
Surf Life Saving Queensland has contingency plans in place to ensure that the event is held in the safest possible environment for its competitors.
Event organisers are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to providing the most accurate information to competitors, officials and spectators as soon as it is available.
Please note there is currently NO CHANGE to 2024 Youth Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships.
Surf Life Saving Queensland will ensure that competitors, officials, the media and the public are kept up to date with the latest competition information via its website and SLSQ Social Media Channels.
