P3 QUEENSLAND BEACH SERIES COMES TO A STUNNING CLOSE AT KURRAWA

January 11, 2023

The P3 Queensland Beach Series came to a stunning close at Kurrawa Beach over the weekend, with the state’s best beach athletes competing in the third and final round on Saturday 7 January 2023.

With the opening rounds of the Series held in late 2022, the stars of the sand are eager to start the new year on a high.

Competitors from U11 right through to the Open age groups went head to head in beach flags, beach sprint and beach relay events.

Maroochydore were again crowned champions in the third round, and the overall champions of the Series, completing the trifecta after winning all three rounds.

Currumbin’s Tim Delahunty took out the Open Male title, after delivering another impressive performance at Kurrawa.

Delahunty said it was great to get some racing experience ahead, as he continues preparations for the SLSQ State Championships and Australian Surf Life Saving Championships later this season.

“It was good – it was good to see guys from interstate come up and race with us,” Delahunty said.“The flag was hotly contested, there’s a hot field in Australia at the moment. On the day you have to turn up to win, anyone on the sand could have won.

“Everyone is a bit different, but I’ve found in the last few seasons that racing as much as I can is more beneficial than a training session,” he said.

Current World Champion Elizabeth Forsyth (Currumbin) returned to home sands, consistently performing throughout the 2022/23 Series to earn herself the Open Women’s overall title.
