It was an action packed day including the weather on the third day of the 2024 Queensland Youth Surf Life Saving Championships at North Kirra Beach.
The All Aged Beach Relay kicked off the morning with Maroochydore Team A taking home first place and the Collin and Bonnie Alchin trophy.
“It was a hard race, you’ve got to give it your everything for your team when you start the race,” said Levi Pedrana (Maroochydore).
“So much can go wrong in the All Aged Relay. I say to the team every year it’s one of those events that binds the entire club together, it’s a very very special one to win,” said coach Todd McSwan.
The U11 age group took to the surf in the afternoon to contest the heats and quarter finals of the Ironmen, Ironwomen, board and surf events.
“It was super fun, the sweep was hard but when you went down the cans you went super fast which was cool,” said U11 Ironman heat winner Henry Hopper from Noosa Heads.
After heats and quarter finals dominated the water arenas during the day, the U14s were able to compete for the gold medal in the Board Rescue.
Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Team A and B were first and second across the line respectively in the U14 Female Board Rescue event.
“It’s a pretty good result, it shows all the strength we have in our club, it was great to finish first” said Jessica Conrad, Burleigh Mowbray Park Team A team member.
“It’s about getting around each other and having fun with smiles and laughter,” said Taylah Birch, Burleigh Mowbray Park Team B team member.
The U15 Male Board Rescue experienced a similar result, this time with North Burleigh A & B taking line honours.
“I just had to get a good start to take the lead and we brought it home, that’s all that matters,” said Taj Murray, North Burleigh Team A.
“This was the second time Taj and I have competed together so it was awesome we could take out the State Title together,” said teammate Byron McParland.
The last day of the 2024 Queensland Youth Surf Life Saving Championships gets underway tomorrow (Sunday) at 8am with a full round of finals across all age groups U11 – 15 including Ironmen and women, surf and board races.
