The SLSQ Mentoring Program is designed to support new leaders, strengthen clubs and branches, and build a network of capable, confident surf lifesaving volunteers. Whether you're just starting in a club, branch, or state-level position, this program connects you with experienced mentors who can provide guidance, advice, and support as you navigate your leadership journey.

Who Should Get Involved?

This program is ideal for Club, Branch, or state position holders who have less than two years’ experience in their role and want to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and gain insights from those who have been in similar positions.

Program Objectives

Support new leaders to help them settle into their roles and reduce turnover.
Develop capable, confident, and strong leaders within the surf lifesaving community.
Provide leadership development opportunities for both mentors and mentees.
Build more sustainable clubs through positive leadership and knowledge sharing.

How It Works

The 12-month program pairs new committee members with experienced volunteer mentors from across the state. Through regular check-ins, discussions, and shared experiences, mentors provide fresh perspectives, role-specific advice, and constructive feedback to help mentees grow in their positions.

MENTOR REQUIREMENTS

To apply as a mentee, Members must:

Be a current financial member of an SLSQ affiliated Surf Life Saving Club/Entity
Hold a ‘Working with Children’ Blue Card and have completed the required child safety
courses.
Hold a current position on your club or branch executive/management committee (under 2
years) or Operational committee i.e. CTO, Club Captain, JAC, Surf Sports Officer, etc.
Must hold the SLSQ CYRM Induction and SLSQ Child Safe Awareness Induction
