SLSQ is searching for a Head of Education to lead the Education department!

About the Role:

The Head of Education is responsible for leading the SLSQ Education Department and to ensure smooth and efficient education programs across the organisation. This position is accountable for the RTO and to oversee all aspects of learning and educational programs within SLSQ. This role is based at our South Brisbane office with the ability to work from home once settled in the role.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Departmental strategic planning aligned with SLSQ objectives and employee development needs.
  • Project management of varies necessary education projects.
  • Organisation training needs analysis.
  • Oversee design and development of all training products.
  • Collaborate with organisational stakeholders at both national and state levels.
  • Managing the learning and development budget and resources effectively.
  • Responsible for compliance of the RTO.
  • Effectively manage implementation and migration of new LMS and SMS system state-wide / change management.
  • Manage the learning management system (LMS) or other training platforms to facilitate the delivery of learning programs.
  • Manage Learning & Development – oversee design and development of SLSQ specific courses.
  • Report on all learning and development performance.
  • Manage educational departments staff and volunteer trainers and assessor’s workload, performance and professional development.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, surveys, and feedback mechanisms, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage administrative function of the department, processing and data handling.
  • Oversee design, develop, monitor and evaluate department policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance across the requirements of ASQA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Lead and manage department processes.
  • Oversee maintenance of trainer qualification register.
  • Manage moderations, validations and internal audits.
  • Liaise Marketing department of course marketing (website, social media etc).
  • Conducting research and tender applications.
  • Liaising with state regulators (such as ASQA) to ensure we meet our ongoing training and assessment requirements.
  • Network, build and maintain strong relationships with peak bodies and new markets.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry standards, mandatory qualifications and other educational developments in the VET and corporate sectors.

Skills & Experience:

  • Working with Children Blue Card (Essential).
  • Proof of Identity Check (points of identification and working rights) (Essential).
  • Demonstrable commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people (Essential).
  • Basic understanding of child safety and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (Essential).
  • TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or its successor or TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development or TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development or its successor or A higher level qualification in adult education.
  • At least 5 years working within a Registered Training Organisation (Essential).
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in working with RTO’s and VET Quality Framework (Essential).
  • Comprehensive understanding of Standards of RTOs 2015 (Essential).
  • Experience working with the TAE Training Package (Advantage).
  • Experience within eLearning framework (Essential).
  • Proficient in MS Office instructional software (Essential).
  • Experienced in LMS (Essential).
  • Experience in internal/external audits (Essential).
  • Demonstrated ability in training design and development in line with industry requirements (Essential).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Essential).
  • Thorough understanding and experience of mapping, validation, and moderation (Essential)
  • Strategic thinker with advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously but collaboratively as part of a larger organisation.
  • Ability to manage in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence and lead conversations.
  • A positive attitude and work commitment.

Surf Life Saving Queensland employs over 550 people throughout Queensland. SLSQ is an efficient and vibrant organisation servicing 36,000 members. It was formally established in 1930 and is the governing body for surf lifesaving in Queensland, comprising 57 affiliated surf lifesaving clubs in six regional branches.
