Facilitator Stream: TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
Deliver training and assessment without supervision, including making assessment judgements.
The role of a facilitator is to deliver high-quality, engaging training and ensure the integrity, consistency, and validity of assessment outcomes, confirming that learners have demonstrated the required skills and knowledge to be deemed competent.
Please be aware this program is designed for candidates who already have obtained their Trainer Skill Set and Assessor Skill Set either through SLSQ TAF Pathways or an external RTO.

Entry requirements
Formal Entry Requirements: Those entering this qualification must be able to demonstrate vocational competence in their proposed training and assessing area. Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.
SLSQ Entry Requirements: Have successfully completed the Trainer Skill Set and Assessor Skill Set either through SLSQ TAF Pathways OR an external RTO. In addition, applicants must:
- Complete the SLSQ Enrolment Application Form, including the LLND Readiness Activity.
SLSQ Member Entry Requirements: SLSQ members wishing to book in must meet the following entry requirements:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Active Patrolling Member with a minimum 3 years’ experience.
- PUA20119 Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)/Bronze Medallion.
- Hold the SLSQ Surf Award you wish to train for 12-months or more
- Club approval and branch endorsement.
Course Delivery Options
This blended program includes:
- Online session induction to the course
- Access to digital or online instruction/learning
- Face-to-face instruction/learning
- An integration of the face-to-face and online learning work
Face-to-Face Delivery: Workshops are delivered in-house on our clients/Surf Life Saving sites.
Online Delivery: Learners will use our Learning Management System, aXcelerate, to access all learning materials and resources, including learning material, videos, and learning activities.
Learners will also complete all assessments through the platform, where their Assessor will mark and provide feedback on the assessment tasks.
Course Outline
This Facilitator Pathway is designed to recognise your previously completed Trainer and Assessor Skill Sets and support your progression toward completing the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, ultimately enabling your transition into a facilitator role within the VET sector. The required skill sets include:
- TAESS00029 Volunteer Trainer Delivery Skill Set OR TAESS00028 Work Skill Instructor Skill Set
- TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set
You will then undertake the remaining units required to complete the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment:
- TAEPDD401 Work Effectively in the VET Sector OR BSBCMM411 Make Presentations
- TAELLN422 Use Foundation Skills Resources, Strategies and Advice
- TAEDEL411 Facilitate Vocational Training
- TAEDES412 Design and Develop Plans for Vocational Training
- TAEDEL412 Facilitate Workplace-Based Learning
- TAEDEL414 Mentor in the Workplace
- ELECTIVE UNIT: PUATEA004 Work Effectively in a Public Safety Organisation OR a unit from a Certificate III or higher qualification relevant to the work environment and the qualification
ELECTIVE UNIT:
- SLSQ Members: Credit transfer will be applied for PUATEA004 Work Effectively in a Public Safety Organisation from Certificate II in Public Safety (Bronze Medallion).
Upon successful completion, participants will be issued a Certificate in TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Program Duration
Individuals will have 9 months to complete this program.
