Coolangatta SLSC Named 2025 Club of the Year

Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club has been named Surf Life Saving Queensland’s 2025 Club of the Year, recognising its strong community spirit, inclusive culture, and commitment to putting people first.

Under President Belinda Doman, the club has focused on creating a space where everyone feels welcome — whether they’re new families, long-time members, or future lifesavers. Simple touches like free Sunday BBQs, youth events, and “Member of the Month” awards have helped turn the club into a genuine community hub.

Membership has surged as a result. Coolangatta has more than doubled its Nipper numbers over the past three seasons and continues to grow year on year. Behind that growth is a clear philosophy: treat people well, celebrate contributions, and remove barriers to participation. The club even covers training costs and offers free membership renewals for highly active volunteers.

“It all comes back to culture — focusing on people, belonging, and making everyone feel like they matter,” says President Belinda Doman.

From family beach days to patrol teamwork, that culture has become Coolangatta’s hallmark. The club’s success is a reminder that lifesaving is about more than flags and rescues — it’s about connection, community, and creating a place where everyone has a role.
