One of the biggest misconceptions about surf life saving is the time commitment. People often think it requires hours and hours every weekend, but in reality, just five hours a month can make a huge difference. Imagine spending those five hours on the beach with friends, under the sun, and helping to save lives. It’s a small investment of time for such a rewarding experience.

How much does it cost to join a Club?

What is the Bronze Medallion and do I need it?

If you are wanting to be a lifesaver who is involved in water rescues, you will need either a Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate.

Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate holders serve as our first responders on the beach, equipped with the essential skills and knowledge in surf awareness, rescue techniques, radio communication, CPR, and first aid. Both awards require a level of fitness, including a timed pool swim.

The Bronze Medallion can be completed from 15 years of age, equipping you with the essential skills to patrol the beach and opening up further Lifesaving award opportunities. As a Bronze Medallion holder, your responsibilities will include beach patrols, ensuring public safety, potential rescues and preventive actions.

If you aren’t quite ready to attain the Bronze Medallion, The Surf Rescue Certificate is a stepping stone and can be completed from 13 years of age.

If you would rather stay out of the water, these awards are not necessary.
