Senior Pilot & Drone Supervisor – Safeguard Queensland’s Beaches from Above!

Join a pioneering initiative at the forefront of beach safety and shark mitigation. As the Senior Pilot and Drone Supervisor for the SharkSmart UAV Program, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of drone-based shark monitoring across Queensland’s iconic beaches. Your leadership will ensure compliance with aviation regulations, effective team coordination, and the seamless integration of drone technology into lifesaving operations. This is a remote role based in the South East Queensland area.

What You’ll Do:

  • Operational Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of Remote Pilots and Observers, ensuring efficient and safe drone operations.
  • Compliance & Training: Ensure all personnel adhere to CASA regulations and SLSQ protocols. Facilitate induction training and ongoing performance evaluations.
  • Field Support: Conduct regular site visits to monitor operations, provide on-ground support, and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards in data collection, reporting, and operational procedures. Assist the CRP in auditing and refining UAV operations.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee the maintenance and servicing of UAVs, vehicles, and associated equipment, ensuring readiness for deployment.

 

About You:

  • Current Queensland Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
  • CASA-endorsed Remote Pilot Licence (RePL).
  • Ability to obtain Senior Remote Pilot Endorsement under SLSQ’s Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC).
  • Background in training or education, with experience in delivering instructional content.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Aviation Rules and Regulations, particularly Part 101.
  • Proven experience in team management and motivation to achieve operational goals.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and flight management systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current Surf Life Saving membership and proficient Bronze Medallion (desirable).
