Since 1983, we’ve been a proud, family-oriented club, dedicated to patrolling iconic Four Mile Beach and serving the Port Douglas community.
With over 150 passionate volunteer members, we’re part of the North Queensland Branch, Surf Life Saving Queensland, and Surf Life Saving Australia.
We’re passionate about keeping our beach safe and offering fun and inclusive programs for everyone, from surf sports and youth development to our popular Nippers program.
As Queensland’s northernmost Surf Life Saving Club, we operate from May to November, during the cooler months of the year
New members are always welcome—come join our community!
Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club has a variety of opportunities for people of all ages to become involved.
Nippers is for children aged 5 to 14, who are the future of our Club and the surf life saving movement. For those a little older, there are membership opportunities to become a trained and proficient active surf lifesaver, and participate in voluntary beach patrols over the winter months.
Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club provides members of all ages with many opportunities for self-development and growth. Not only making new friends, but learning important skills and values that can help you throughout your live. Our club encourages teamwork, volunteering, leadership and community services.
Each membership category provides differing benefits throughout all aspects of the club.
Becoming an active member of the Port Douglas SLSC is a rewarding experience and comes with a huge range of benefits including:
Patrol Four Mile Beach and actively assist in overseeing the safety of all beachgoers
The opportunity to learn and teach valuable skills
Represent Port Douglas SLSC in surf sports competitions and events from Nippers to Masters
Access to members-only club facilities and gear
With golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see and crystal clear water lapping gently against the shore, it is easy to lose track of time when walking on Four Mile Beach.
The beach unfolds in a gentle curve flanked by palm trees just a short walk from Port Douglas’s main street. But all that is expected – after all, Port Douglas is a tropical paradise. Four Mile Beach is a local’s escape from the daily grind and many walk the shoreline as the sun rises and sets.
For tourists, it is a pleasure to spend days swimming, sunbathing, dozing under the palms, enjoying a magical sunset, or joining locals for an invigorating walk.
The Surf Life Saving club members patrol the beach and during the warmer months when marine stingers may be present the stinger resistant enclosure is put in the water for swimmers.
The Surf Life Saving members maintain a voluntary patrol on the weekends from April to November.
