Etty Bay is a small, family-friendly club close to Innisfail, North Queensland
Nestled in a small, sheltered bay, Etty Bay SLSC emphasises its nippers and junior programs. Native cassowary birds can sometimes be seen on the beach, sharing space with patrols, regular carnivals and surf sports.
Etty Bay is a hidden gem – one of the safest, most attractive beaches on the Queensland coast.
This picturesque little bay hides a 700m, east-facing beach, along with the Etty Bay Surf Life Saving Club and a small caravan park. The beach is backed by a narrow, tree-shaded reserve, then steep, forested slopes rising up to 250m behind the beach. Waves average 0.5m and spill across the shallow bar. There are rocks on the beach and in the surf at the southern end, with a small, rocky promontory crossing the northern end that divides the beach at high tide. The stinger net is located in front of the surf life saving club.
This is a relatively safe beach for swimming, with a usually shallow surf zone. Strong south-easterlies build bigger waves which both widen the surf zone and produce rips, particularly against the northern rocks. It is best to stay in the centre of the beach, in the stinger net area.
The Surf Life Saving members maintain a voluntary patrol on the weekends from April to November.
