Emu Park SLSC
Situated on the shores of magnificent Keppel Bay, the Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club is known for the area’s surrounding natural beauty and unspoilt beach.
Members of the Emu Park Surf Life Saving Club patrol the beach on Saturday afternoons and Sundays from mid-September through to Labour Day. Patrols are all day Saturday from November to February and a Lifeguard is on duty during the September, Christmas and Easter school holidays. Senior lifesavers also compete in a range of surf sports from surf boat rowing; swimming; board and ski paddling; ironman (woman) and beach sprints and flags.
The also clubhouse caters for functions, with a large deck and kitchen facilities available.
Emu Park Beach
The two main surfing beaches immediately south of Emu Point were once called Ladies and Men’s Beach, however Men’s Beach is now better known as Emu Park.
Emu Park beach is located on the south side of the point and faces due east. It is 1.2km long, with low Rocky Point forming the southern boundary and a rock outcrop on the centre of the beach. The modern clubhouse is located at the northern end of the beach and is fronted by a seawall. It is surrounded by an extensive grassy foreshore reserve and parking areas. The reserve runs the full length of the beach, with houses set well back from the shore.
The beach receives waves averaging 0.5 to 1m, which break across a wide, low gradient beach. At high tide the beach is 50m wide, extending to over 200m wide at low tide. There are low, rocky points at either end, together with the low intertidal rocks in the centre of the beach. Swimmers should take care when waves exceed 0.5m as rips may occur at low tide and around the rocks.
