SUNSHINE COAST CAMPS

Pulse Junior - Lifesaving Program

Pulse Junior is a hands-on program for youth lifesavers (13-17) with their Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion. It builds skills through real-world scenarios, including mass rescues and patrol leadership. Participants take on roles like Patrol Captain, First Aid Officer, and Rescuer, preparing them for real patrol situations. This program helps develop confidence, teamwork, and quick decision-making for future lifesaving duties.

PULSE - Advanced Lifesaving Program

This program extends the participants’ lifesaving knowledge and skills in a hands-on, scenario-based learning environment. PULSE is open to any patrolling member over the age of 18! Ideally, we encourage all clubs to identify 1‐2 participants to apply.

Camp Commando - Youth Development Program

Camp Commando focuses on team-building, lifesaving skills, and career pathways within and beyond surf lifesaving. It also provides networking opportunities with members from other clubs.

Open to Under 14 and Under 15 members of Sunshine Coast SLSCs, the program encourages clubs to nominate 5-10 participants and 1-2 mentors. Leaders (17+) must be financial members, hold a Bronze Medallion, and have a Blue Card (if over 18).

NORTH BARRIER CAMPS

Camp Alva

U12s & U13s – North Barrier Members

Camp Alva is run for NBB members ages U12 and U13, to bring them all together to bond and have fun outside of carnivals and nippers. The purpose is to show these age groups that there is more to SLS outside of nippers and they work on skills that will transition into doing their SRC.

Participants will be involved in various team building and lifesaving activities.

This camp happens yearly at the end of January.

North Barrier Youth Gold Coast Trip

15–17-year-olds – North Barrier Members

The program concentrates on developing team-building skills, lifesaving knowledge, providing information on opportunities and pathways both within and outside of lifesaving, and networking with members from other clubs in SEQ.

Participants will get to experience a number of Lifesaving activities incl. IRB Racing, Jetski base tour, SOCC Tour, SEQ Surf club Tours.

This camp runs biannually in the April school holidays over 4 days.

North Barrier Branch Bronze/SRC Camp

U14s & U17s – North Barrier Members who are gaining their respective award

This is a 5 day live in camp held on Magnetic Island in the first week of the September school Holidays. Participants get the opportunity to gain either their Bronze or SRC Award with practical training whilst networking with members their age from other surf clubs in the North Barrier Region.

NORTH QUEENSLAND CAMPS

NYSE – Youth Surf Lifesaving Development Program

NYSE is a development program for youth aged 14-17, offering the chance to experience lifesaving in South East Queensland. Participants travel to the southern part of the state and engage in activities such as:

  • Visiting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter base.Team-building activities
  • First Aid scenario training
  • Lifesaving pathways presentations, including Lifeguard and membership information
  • Surfing lessons
  • Patrolling with southern clubs.Assisting with Nipper sessions

The program may alternate between the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast to provide a varied experience.

SRC Camps – Ellis Beach & Cairns SLSC

Ellis Beach and Cairns SLSCs host Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) camps during the July and September holidays. These camps help youth members build lifesaving skills and gain their SRC qualification.

Youth Patrol

This season, a Youth Patrol program will be introduced, allowing youth members to patrol at all five clubs under the direction of different patrol captains. This initiative aims to:

  • Provide experience at various location
  • Foster connections between youth members
  • Offer an alternative for those not attending Surf Carnivals

Some Youth Patrols will involve overnight stays, such as at Mission Beach, with additional training in First Aid scenarios and team-building activities.

NQB Youth Forum

A Youth Forum will take place on the first night of the Mission Beach Carnival, providing a platform for youth members to share ideas and discuss development opportunities.

Youth Panel

Youth members who have attended state programs will have the opportunity to join a Youth Panel. This group will work with the YDO Committee to develop youth initiatives and assist with programs such as NYSE. They will also take on leadership roles as Team Leaders, Coordinators, and Youth Mentors within their clubs.
