A Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) provides information and guidance on rights, responsibilities and options available within the complaint resolution procedures. An MPIO is the first point of contact in a club for any enquiries, concerns or complaints around harassment, child abuse and other inappropriate behaviour. The MPIO provides information to the person with the concern. An MPIO is impartial and will not investigate or mediate complaints. Their role is to provide information to members who need it.
The Role of Member Protection Information Officer
Training
Training is to be completed through Sports Integrity Australia, it’s a free course in Queensland. This training has two components, first there cover online modules and the second part is a face-to-face workshop (can be virtual if required).
The link can be found Here.
Once the 7 modules have been completed online you will need to email the Member Welfare Officer mcaughlan@lifesaving.com.au with the Certificate of Completion. A face-to-face workshop will then be organised for you to attend.
After you have completed the training, you will be given an award on Surfguard – SLSQ MPIO. The Surfguard Award will hold an expiry of 2 years.
Information packages will be sent upon completion of the above requirements. This information will have tips and guides on how to be a Member Protection Information Officer.
Applying for the Role
The above training is mandatory however, further knowledge on SLSQ’s policies and procedures is required. The main policy instruments to consider are the Member Protection Policy SLSA (MPP), the Complaints Resolution Policy and the Child Safe Policy, all available on the SLSQ App under SLSA Policies.
