About the Role:

Surf Life Saving Queensland is looking for a motivated Operations Manager responsible for overseeing all aspects of the manufacturing process within our boat manufacturing facility. This is a key leadership position and will play a critical role in driving efficiency, quality and safety standards while ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality boats to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee production process: Manage and optimise the entire boat manufacturing process from raw materials to finished products, ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and motivate a diverse team of production staff, including team leaders, technicians and assembly-line workers, to achieve production targets, reduce customer lead times and exceed quality standards.
  • Production Planning: Develop and implement production schedules and resource allocation plans to meet customer demand while minimising stock leakage, waste, and downtime.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain stringent quality control processes to ensure that all boats meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all production staff, adhering to relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction and productivity enhancement, and lead initiatives to implement improvements. This includes taking advantage of technology and innovation in production and capitalizing on growth and expansion aligned with strategy.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels of raw materials and finished products, optimising inventory turnover and minimising stockouts or excess inventory.
  • Supplier Management: Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and components, negotiating favorable terms and resolving any supply chain issues.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage production and financial budgets, monitoring expenses and identifying areas for cost savings without compromising quality or efficiency.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate regular reports on production performance, including key metrics such as output, quality and efficiency, and provide analysis and recommendations for improvement.
  • Relocation of manufacturing facility: Participate in the planning and execution of the relocation of the current facility at Burleigh West to a new site at Mermaid Beach (under construction). This facility is expected to be complete and ready for relocation in early 2025!!

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Diploma (or higher) in a related field.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing operations management, preferably in the boat or marine industry (networks).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of implementing process improvements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of production planning, quality control and safety protocols.
  • Experience with manufacturing re-location and transfer of operations to a new site while maintaining output.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organisation.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for production planning, inventory management and data analysis.
