Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club was established in the 1958/59 season. On 28 November 1958, a public meeting was held in the Council Chambers at Coolangatta for the purpose of gaining support and publicity for the formation of a Surf Life Saving Club to patrol this section of Coolangatta Beach. Following this meeting, the club first became affiliated with Point Danger Branch on 28th February 1959, however, active members proved difficult to recruit and the first official patrol later commenced over the Easter period of 1959.
The club is located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia and continues to serve the community and keep Coolangatta Beach safe for swimmers and beach goers. While the club is committed to beach safety, there is more to the club than just surf life saving. The club has hundreds of members who take part in a wide range of activities, such as beach patrols, fundraising, surf sports, junior activities (nippers), training, ocean swimming and more. The club has formal and informal social activities throughout the year, including supporters club raffles, luncheons, golf days, barefoot bowls, trivia nights & much more.
The Surf Club Coolangatta offers absolute beachfront dining and entertainment capturing the superb ocean views from Snapper Rocks to Surfers Paradise. Step straight off the Coolangatta sand and into the Club to enjoy a meal in this first class Supporter’s Club which offers fantastic food, value and service. Board Short Barista is externally located on the northern side of the club and the perfect coffee pit-stop on your morning walk. This café offers a wide variety of hot and cold beverages and serves breakfast and lunch every day from 6am.
This is a heavily developed and somewhat modified beach since the construction of the groyne.
