ATHLETES TO WATCH THIS 2021 SENIOR AND MASTERS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three action-packed days of Ironman, Ironwoman, board, relay, swim, beach sprints and flags and surf boat races will take place.
Surf Life Saving Queensland has compiled a list of athletes to look out for:
Lana Rogers returns to the Queensland stage to defend her 2019 Queensland Open Ironwoman title, but this time will race in new club colours.
The 2021 State Championships will be Lana’s first for Alexandra Headland and she’s looking forward to competing with her new teammates.
Ali Day returns to the Queensland stage after a dominant Ironman Series where he won all six races. Ali will represent Surfers Paradise this weekend.
NEVILLE DE MESTRE
Neville De Mestre from North Burleigh is the second oldest competitor aged 82. He claimed gold in the 70+ Ironman event in 2019 and is returning this year to attempt to claim back-to-back wins. He is also entered in some other events.
William, from Coolangatta is the oldest competitor taking part this weekend, at the ripe age of 86. He will compete in the 70+ Board Race and 1km Beach Run.
