Director of Emergency Response and Capability

SLSQ is seeking a motivated Director of Emergency Response and Capability to join our team!

About the Role:

To provide strong and committed leadership, providing high-level expert guidance, to SLSQ’s Operations Support, Emergency Response and Coastal Safety Network functions. Ensuring appropriate policies and systems are in place to allow the operational capabilities across the business to respond as emergencies occur and evaluate the successes and challenges of previous organisational responses, to ensure continual improvement and optimal future responses to emergencies.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • To lead strategic and operational future planning for the enhancement of SLSQ’s response capability.
  • Lead the provision of risk-based guidance, support, tools, evaluation and assurance to provide confidence in how the division will prepare and respond to incidents, crisis and emergencies in a proactive manner.
  • Lead, develop and manage a program of exercises across the business, including identifying key incidents or crisis and emergency risks that SLSQ personal may be required to respond to and developing and testing mitigation strategies, to assess plans and response capability.
  • Provide advice on disaster management and emergency response.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders including local and state government.
  • To be the responsible manager for the Coastal Safety Network and the State Operation Coordination Center and all of its functions including LIMSOC.
  • Represent and advocate for SLSQ in relation to emergency response and disaster management.
  • Oversee and implement training on disaster management.
  • Keep up to date regarding relevant political and policy issues.

Required Education & Experience:

Essential

  • Working with Children Blue Card.
  • National Police Record Check.
  • Proof of Identity Check (points of identification and working rights).
  • Demonstrable commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people.
  • Significant understanding of child safety and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

Highly Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Emergency Management) or relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in emergency management.
  • Previous experience in managing large IT systems.
