Surf Life Saving Queensland is seeking expressions of interest from highly motivated individuals to fulfil multiple Pool and Beach lifeguard positions in our Townsville region.

Surf Life Saving Queensland is seeking expressions of interest from highly motivated individuals to fulfil multiple Pool and Beach lifeguard positions in our Townsville region.

Positions available include three permanent full-time lifeguards and several casual lifeguard positions.

Reporting to the regions Lifeguard Supervisor, Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining supervision and safety to members of the public by providing advice on safety, performing rescues, first aid and resuscitation as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A great attitude and a willingness to gain the required lifesaving qualifications
  • Demonstrate a high level of fitness
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills

Role Requirements

  • 400m pool swim under 7 minutes and 30 seconds and swim through a further 600m at no time limit. (ocean lifeguards only)
  • Ocean Mission (for ocean lifeguards only)
  • Bronze Medallion (Certificate II Public Safety – Aquatic Rescue) or industry equivalent (See pool Lifeguard requirements below)
  • First Aid Certificate (training provided)
  • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate (training provided)
  • A current Working with Children Blue Card or ability to obtain one quickly
  • A current Queensland Driver’s License (ocean lifeguards only)
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Recreational Marine License and Personal Watercraft License – Highly regarded for ocean lifeguards.

Pool Lifeguard requirements 

  • Be able to swim 200m swim in under 6 minutes and hold the following certificates that cover the Pool Lifeguard Award
  • HLTAID009  Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (held as part of the Pool Lifeguard award)
  • PUAEME001   Provide emergency care (Pool lifeguard requirement only)
  • PUAEME003   Administer oxygen in an emergency situation (Pool lifeguard requirement only)
  • SISCAQU002   Perform basic water rescues (Pool lifeguard requirement only)
  • SISCAQU006   Supervise clients in aquatic locations (Pool lifeguard requirement only)
  • SISCAQU007   Perform advanced water rescues (Pool lifeguard requirement only)

Training will be provided to obtain all outstanding qualifications.
