This unit describes the skills and knowledge a vocational trainer or assessor requires to identify language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skill requirements of training and the work environment, and to use resources and strategies that meet the needs of the learner group.

The unit applies to individuals who teach, train, assess and develop resources.

Competence in this unit does not indicate that a person is a qualified specialist adult language, literacy or numeracy practitioner. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Entry Requirements

  • Participants are required to hold intermediate digital literacy skills to complete the Online component of the course (computers and use of programs) are required. Learners are expected to have computer skills and knowledge of how to produce word processed documents, develop PowerPoint presentations, use the Internet for research and upload videos using the Canvas Student App on their phone. At a minimum, the ability to use our user-friendly learning management system, CANVAS to access all their learning resources and assessments.
  • A minimum of a Year10 English skill is required.   Participants are expected to have effective written, comprehension and spoken communication abilities within a familiar and some unfamiliar contexts to manage the reading, oral work and writing required in this course.

On successfully completing the training and assessment, you will obtain a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in:

Who Should Participate?

Participants wishing to upgrade their TAE40110 to the current Trainer and Assessor requirements to meet the Standards for RTOs. In the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, this unit of competency is a core unit.

To fulfil the new requirements for the Standards for RTOs 2015, all Trainers and Assessors as who hold their TAEA40110 will need to obtain 2 new core units, those being – TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools and TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills.

Mode of Delivery

FACE-TO-FACE

This skill set can also be delivered through a face-to-face delivery session of 1 day.  You will have access to your learning material through CANVAS and will be required to do some pre-course reading before the training session.  The Trainer will facilitate information sessions and carry out some practical assessments.

Travel Costs

Delivery of courses can be organised in other states and throughout Queensland, however all travel from Brisbane and accommodation to be paid additionally.

ONLINE

This option is to be done online where each participant will have access to variety of educational resources through our Learning Platform, Canvas. This will include learning manuals, PowerPoints, videos and learning activities. Your Course Coach will run virtual classes through Teams and be there to answer any questions or concerns they may have through email, phone calls and Teams. This program is designed to allow flexibility, you will study in your own time at your own pace with assistance from your Course Coach.

Summative assessments are also accessed through CANVAS, however will only be accessible once learning resources are read and learning activities have been completed. This will ensure an essential volume of learning has occurred. All assessment will be completed and uploaded into Canvas where your assessor will mark and provide feedback.

Assessment Requirement

Knowledge and reflective questions, design, develop and deliver a training session with LLN instructional strategies.  Your delivery will need to take place in the club with a minimum of 3 or more participants with your approved mentor to sign a Third-Party observation checklist.

These units provide credit towards TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

This option is utilizing SLSQ Trainers to complete a Face-to-face delivery to your Learners.  SLSQ Trainers will also provide email, phone, Zoom or Team sessions and webinar coaching.  They will assess all candidates’ assessments, provide feedback and coach where required.   Learners will have access to CANVAS with all learning resources and assessments.
Online  $300 per person Your Learners will have access to SLSQ Trainers and Assessors who will provide them with all online coaching and training requirements, which will include coaching through emails, telephone, Zoom or Team meetings and webinars.  They will assess all candidates’ assessments, provide feedback and coach where required.   Learners will have access to CANVAS with all learning resources and assessments.
