Harbour Town Surf Crew
Surf Life Saving Queensland has launched Harbour Town Surf Crew to the Gold Coast, a new beach safety initiative.
The Harbour Town Surf Crew will consist of a branded and fully operational lifesaving vehicle that includes music, lights, games and more, to engage, educate and entertain the public.
The vehicle will be predominantly parked near the Surfers Paradise sign at the end of Cavill Avenue. The vehicle will also be used at key events such as the Gold Coast 600 Supercars, Commonwealth Games, as well as school demonstrations and various community events.
The motivation behind the Harbour Town Surf Crew initiative is to educate people about water safety before they even step foot on the beach in a fun and interactive fashion.
SLSQ want to give people the skills, knowledge and awareness to make educated choices about their safety and, ultimately, reduce the risk of beachgoers putting themselves and possibly others at risk.
Whilst SLSQ’s community and public awareness programs are designed to educate all members of the community, Harbour Town Surf Crew is tailored to the demographic who may not be familiar with Queensland’s coastal conditions and are more at risk of drowning or sustaining an injury at the beach than others.
The Harbour Town Surf Crew program will be activated a minimum of 4 hours per day in the quieter periods and up to 6 hours per day over the busy months of December, January and February.
