Lifesaving

Surf Life Saving Queensland is the peak safety and rescue authority in the state. To watch over the millions of beach-goers that visit our coastline SLSQ's lifesaving services are provided through a network of volunteers lifesavers, professional lifeguards, operations support, beach management systems and community awareness programs.

All lifesaving personnel are trained in various lifesaving techniques and must attain an Award prior to performing patrol services. SLSQ services are spread along the Queensland coast from Rainbow Bay on the QLD/NSW border to Port Douglas in North Queensland.

Our services comprise:

  • 58 affiliated surf life saving clubs
  • Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service
  • Rescue craft
  • SurfCom, communication and surveillance
  • Mobile services
  • Duty officers
  • Professional lifeguard services

Providing aquatic safety to the public is the most important area of our operations and includes:

  • Surf safety and surf awareness information
  • Dangerous marine creature information and research
  • School education programs (e.g. Breaka Beach to Bush)
  • Community award training
  • Water safety services
  • Statistical analysis of incidents
  • Coastal Management Services

Lifeguards

SLSQ’s Australian Lifeguard Service provides professional lifeguard services to local councils and land managers across Queensland. There are currently more than 400 professional lifeguards employed on beaches around the state. For more information visit http://lifeguards.com.au

Our operations and support services extend our reach far beyond the red and yellow flags. Across Queensland lifesavers and lifeguards on the beach are supported by Lifesaving Operations Support services. These services are critical to our operation, patrolling dangerous and unpatrolled areas and helping guide people back into the flagged areas.
